Soft-Baked Apple Cinnamon Rolls

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup peeled and diced apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast; allow to foam for 5 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients; mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough to a rectangle, spread with butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar, apples, raisins, and walnuts.
  7. Roll up tightly and cut into rolls; place in a greased baking pan.
  8. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm, drizzled with icing if desired.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add a teaspoon of nutmeg to the filling.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for a couple of days.
