  2. Add heavy cream, butter, and salt. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture reaches 245°F (firm-ball stage).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the caramel into a greased dish and allow to cool completely.
  5. Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
