French Onion Chicken Orzo Casserole

A delicious and creamy casserole combining the flavors of French onion soup and chicken, enriched with turkey bacon and orzo pasta.

  • 1 pound orzo pasta
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyere)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot, cook the orzo pasta according to package instructions, then drain.
  3. In a skillet, sauté the onions over medium heat until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cooked orzo, chicken, turkey bacon, caramelized onions, beef broth, cream, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and top with shredded cheese.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit the chicken and turkey bacon and use vegetable broth.
